EYE EXAMINATIONS
Eyesight is perhaps the most precious of the five senses, so why is caring for our eyes so often at the bottom of our healthcare list? Regular eye examinations should be as much a part of your family's routine as a visit to the dentist.
CONTACT LENSES
Have you ever considered contact lenses? Now is the time to try contact lenses, because new technology has created a range of lenses to suit everyone, even those who have previously been told their eyes are unsuited to them.
CHILDRENS EYES
Eye development between birth and seven years is crucial: undetected problems during that period can result in lifelong visual impairments.
Many children have undetected sight problems. Research shows that approximately 1 in 10 Year 8 children (12-13 year-olds) and 1 in 20 Year 2 children (6-7 year-olds) require glasses but do not have them.
Uncorrected eye problems can seriously damage not only the development of a child's vision but also their social interaction and performance at school. The negative consequences can be far-reaching.
CHROMAGEN FILTERS
Dyslexia affects around 14 percent of the world's population and over three million people in the UK alone suffer from colour vision deficiency.
ChromaGen is a unique product developed to help patients who suffer from either colour deficiency or academic skills disorders (ASD), such as dyslexia. ChromaGen Haploscopic filters are a range of individually prescribed precision tinted lenses, which can be worn as either contact lenses or spectacles.
ORTHO K
Orthokeratology involves the use of specially designed rigid gas permeable contact lenses to alter the shape of the cornea in order to correct short sightedness (myopia) and low degrees of astigmatism. Most patients wear the lenses overnight and remove them on awakening. Ortho K provides the opportunity to be free from both contact lenses and spectacles for all waking hours. Ortho K is particularly suited to children, sportsmen and people who work in dusty and dry environments.
STYLE CHOICES
Here at Jane Smellie Opticians, we're not only experts in eye care, but we understand the importance of choosing fashionable and functional frames to suit your face shape and visual needs.
SPORTSVISION
Those who take their sport seriously should consider a Sports Vision Assessment.
Sports Vision is an exciting field of sports science, which considers every aspect of eyesight and the way it influences how our body responds.
